No. 1: US 31 @ W SOUTH AIRPORT RD, Garfield Township
This very busy corner south of Traverse City is once again at the top of the list of Grand Traverse County’s Most Dangerous Intersections.
Total crashes in 2023 increased to 43 from 38 in both 2022 and 2021. Although this was an increase from 35 in 2020, it was still significantly lower than the 62 auto accidents that occurred at this intersection in 2019.
Fortunately, injuries from collisions at this intersection dropped drastically in 2023, falling from 19 in 2022 to 4 in 2023. In 2021 and 2020, there were 6 and 5 injuries, respectively.
No. 2: SOUTH AIRPORT RD @ N GARFIELD RD, Garfield Township
The second intersection on the Grand Traverse County’s Most Dangerous Intersections for 2023 yielded 30 total collisions, up slightly from 29 in 2022. Between 2020 and 2023, 2021 has the highest number of crashes with 34. In 2020, there were 21 car accidents at this interchange.
Injuries in 2023 were down slightly, decreasing from 9 in 2022 to 6 in 2023. In 2021 and 2020, there were 4 and 9 injuries, respectively.
