No. 1: 11 MILE RD/I 696 @ VAN DYKE AVE, Center Line
Number 1 on the list of Macomb County’s Most Dangerous Intersections for the third year in a row, this intersection had 218 total crashes in 2023, up from 207 in 2022, 173 in 2021, 124 in 2020, and 129 in 2019.
Unfortunately, injuries at this interchange were at their highest in the last five years. In 2023, there were 52 injuries, which was up from 41 in 2022, 38 in 2021, 33 in 2020, and 31 in 2019.
No. 2: 18 1/2 MILE RD @ VAN DYKE AVE, Sterling Heights
In 2023, there were 135 total crashes at this busy interchange – which also happens to be a roundabout – up from 118 in 2022. In 2021, there were 168 total car accidents. And there were 131 in 2020 and 229 in 2019.
Injuries were down slightly – with 9 in 2023 and 10 in 2022. In 2021, 2020, and 2019, there were 17, 8 and 14 injuries, respectively.
